On Saturday, October 20, Centennial’s Marching Band and Color Guard hosted the

annual Circle City Classic, a field show competition of 20+ high school bands from around the

area. Each fall season, field bands organize and perform a field show, with the aim of being the

top band in their division at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association

(SCSBOA) championships. Saturday’s field show competition was just one of many

competitions that determines who competes at the championships. Dozens of buses filled the

student and faculty parking lots, bringing bands ranging from smaller 4A division to the larger

6A division. The spectacular day showcased the hard work of these bands. Walnut High School’s

theme focused on the Nightmare Before Christmas with Jack Skeleton sneaking around the field,

while Redondo Union High School displayed their show titled “Pure Imagination” utilizing

colorful props to enhance the visual effect. Centennial’s show, titled “In Three Words”, secured

second place in division 5A, and Centennial’s own color guard received the high auxiliary award

for their performance. As the 2018 fall season continues, we wish the Centennial Field Band and

Color Guard the best of luck!
