CIF/State Cross Country
The Cross Country CIF Finals concluded November 19th at the Riverside City Cross Country Course; among its competitors were Trevor Woodward and Rylee Penn representing Centennial High School. Trevor finished the 3 mile course in Division 1 at the finals with an outstanding time of 15:09.3, and Rylee completed the race in an impressive 17:35.8, a season best, also in Division 1.
Rylee Penn’s results qualified her for the 2016 CIF State Championships, which took place on November 26th at Woodward Park, Fresno. She ran a 5,000 meter race in Women’s Division 1 and ultimately had a time of 18:36.8, a personal record for her. Congratulations to both athletes for an amazing Cross Country season!
The road to the CIF Finals was long; in the Big 8 League Finals, Trevor Woodward placed 3rd in Varsity Boys with a time of 14:52.5, and Rylee Penn placed 2nd in Varsity Girls with a time of 17:09.2, qualifying both varsity athletes to advance into CIF.
Advancing on to CIF-SS Division Preliminaries, Trevor Woodward ran a three mile course in 15:13.5, putting him in 8th place in his race. Rylee Penn ran the same course in 17:47.6, in 3rd place.
Trevor Woodward and Rylee Penn made it to the CIF-SS Finals on November 19th. Trevor finished the race in an impressive 15:09.3 in 23rd place in his race, and Rylee Penn completed the 5 kilometer course in 17:35.8 in 16th place.
